Model United Nations

Model United Nations (MUN) simulations are popular exercises for those interested in learning more about the UN. Students take on the roles of diplomats from different countries, representing their nation in discussions on a particular topic/agenda in the conference. These reflect issues taken up by the UN for discussion, ranging from relatively general topics to specific issues. Today, the UN has developed guidelines for conducting MUN simulations following proper procedures and processes. Delegates must research about their allotted countries in great detail, understanding their own foreign policy and thus learn about the deliberations and obligations that determine state behaviour at an international level. They also need to research on its treatment in the UN system, resolutions passed, major countries involved, causes, consequences, past actions and much more. Finally, delegates must research and propose innovative and feasible solutions to the problem, within the mandate of the agency they are simulating. The entire discussion is carried out through formal rules of procedure that require students to truly step into the shoes of a UN diplomat. The delegates get an opportunity to win accolades like Best Delegate, Outstanding Delegate, and other Verbal Commendations.

MUN Training programs

Model United Nations conferences focus majorly on providing students with a basic orientation towards the world of public speaking, MUNs and skill set development. At Queens’ we regularly conduct training programmes and workshops for students.

  • In the first level, the delegates become familiar with the Rules of Procedures (RoP) like the art of introduction and expressing opinions. Acknowledging the views of others and argumentative debating whilst respecting other members are also covered in the rules.
  • At the second level, the delegates can refine their skills and learn strategies essential for excelling in MUN conferences.
  • The third level focuses specifically on helping delegates to become better MUN participants through focused simulations of specific MUN scenarios.Executive Board Training Program

At Queens’ College, we facilitate Executive Board Training Programmes which is a 12 to 16 hour workshop for the delegates who wish to become EB members.
